Tween Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 August 2026
Tween is built so that there is very little to say here. There is no server, no account, and no analytics. This document describes exactly what the app does with your information, and it is short because the app does almost nothing with it.
The short version
Tween has no backend. Nothing you do in Tween is uploaded to us, because there is no “us” to upload it to — we operate no servers that receive your data. Your location, your friends, and your meetups stay on your device and travel only inside the iMessage conversations you choose to send them to.
What Tween stores on your device
- Your location. Requested only while you are using the app or its iMessage extension (“When In Use”). It is stored in a private container shared between the Tween app and its Messages extension so both can show the same meetup.
- Your display name, if you set one.
- Friends you add, including a name, an optional contact identifier, and the phone number or email you chose to send to. This is stored so that inviting a friend keeps working even if you later revoke Contacts access.
- Optional saved addresses and groups (Tween Pro), so a group can be planned without everyone sharing live locations.
- Recent and favourite places you have opened.
- Your preferences, such as which maps app to open and your maximum drive time.
- An optional meetup plan (Tween Pro): a time, how each person is travelling, and the place you are meeting.
All of this stays on your device. It is not encrypted beyond the protection iOS gives app storage, so please don’t use Tween to record anything you would not want visible to someone with access to your unlocked phone.
What Tween sends, and to whom
- Into your iMessage conversation. When you share a location or propose a place, Tween puts coordinates and a place name into the message you send. That message goes to the people in that conversation, through Apple’s Messages service, exactly like any other iMessage. Tween never sends route data or your contact list.
- To Apple. Searching for places and calculating travel times uses Apple’s MapKit. Those requests go to Apple under Apple’s own privacy policy. Tween adds no identifier of its own to them.
- Nowhere else. There are no third-party SDKs, no advertising, no analytics, and no crash reporting that transmits your data.
Permissions Tween asks for, and why
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Location (When In Use) | To place you on the map and compute fair meeting points. Never requested in the background. |
| Contacts | Only so you can pick a friend to invite. Tween reads the contact you select; it does not upload your address book. |
| Notifications | Only to deliver a leave-by reminder you explicitly set. Scheduled locally on your device. |
| Calendar (write only) | Only to add a meetup you explicitly choose to add. Tween requests write-only access and cannot read your existing events. |
Every one of these is optional. Declining any of them disables only the feature that needs it.
Purchases
Tween Pro is sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase. Apple processes the payment; Tween never sees your payment details. Whether you own Pro is verified on your device against your App Store account and recorded as a single true/false value locally.
Children
Tween is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your data
Deleting the Tween app removes everything described above from your device. Because none of it was ever sent to us, there is nothing for us to delete on our end and no request you need to make.
Changes
If this policy changes, the “last updated” date above will change with it.
